Peter Knutson, Wharton

Knutson, an affiliate professor emeritus of accounting at the Wharton Faculty and a Sloan Fellow of the Wharton Economical Institutions Middle, passed away at dwelling in Edmonds, Washington from troubles relevant to highly developed prostate most cancers on August 21. He was 86.

Dr. Knutson grew up in Beloit, Wisconsin. He acquired his BBA and MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1957 and 1961, respectively. After graduating, he worked as a workers accountant for Robert E. Wegner and Associates and for Arthur Andersen & Co. Soon after earning a PhD from the University of Michigan in 1965, he joined the college of the Wharton College. Dr. Knutson’s teaching and study focused on economic accounting and reporting, and he printed in a selection of educational and experienced journals. His training was renowned: In 1980, he acquired the Anvil Award for excellence in educating from the Wharton Graduate Division, and his training course Challenge in Economic Reporting acquired Excellence in Teaching awards from students in Wharton’s MBA program for quite a few yrs in the 1990s. When a member of the Wharton College school, he also held checking out appointments at the College of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and at the North European Management Institute in Oslo, Norway. Dr. Knutson retired in 1996 but remained energetic at Wharton, educating an government schooling program and collaborating in Wharton’s government video and remote Tv set-satellite learning and other educational programs. Outdoors of Penn, Dr. Knutson was a member of the Association for Expense Management and Study (AIMR), in which he took management positions in 1998, he gained AIMR’s Special Services Award. Dr. Knutson performed an lively part in issues affecting accounting coverage both in the U.S. and internationally. He was a member of the International Accounting Specifications Committee (IASC) Steering Committee on Earnings For every Share and served the IASC as a technological advisor on accounting for financial devices. He also served as the accounting consultant to the Credit rating and Risk Management Division of Robert Morris Associates, the association of bank credit executives in the U.S. and Canada. His specialist responsibilities took him to a number of nations around the world, such as Australia, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, England, Japan and Saudi Arabia. Just after shifting to Edmonds, Washington, in 2005, Dr. Knutson was also intensely involved with the Edmonds Senior Centre and the Edmonds Centre for the Arts, serving on its board and co-sponsoring quite a few reveals. 

Dr. Knutson is survived by his sister Sandra Kroll, his wife Susan, his sons Christopher (Yelena) and Charles (Korry), his daughter Carol Krantz, and 6 grandchildren. A celebration of his daily life will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 3 pm at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. In lieu of bouquets, donations in Dr. Knutson’s memory can be manufactured to the Edmonds Heart for the Arts.
